Is Liberty National Life Discriminating Against Policyholder Applicants?

Posted on Jul 14, 2009

An audit of Liberty National Life Insurance Company's life insurance applications by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (FLOIR) has revealed the insurer may have discriminated against those applicants of Haitian or Colombian descent by denying their applications for life insurance.  For example, over 50% of Haitian applicants were denied life insurance compared to only 18% of other foreign born applicants.

Over the course of the 5 month investigation and over 7,000 applications reviewed by FOIR, nearly 1,149 violations were noted.

FOIR has given Liberty National 21 days to provide evidence that it did not violate any anti discriminatory state laws.
