Paget's disease is a severe disorder of the skeleton where bone is replaced with softened and enlarged bone. Approximately 1% of adults in the US over the age of 40 have Paget's disease. Any bone can be involved.
Symptoms include pain, stiffness, fatigue, and bone deformity. If the skull is involved, headaches and hearing impairment are usual symptoms. Diagnosis is accomplished through simple X-rays. Treatment includes general care for symptoms and complications as well as drug therapy.
