Medicare beneficiaries have the choice of receiving their Medicare benefits through private health insurance plans (Medicare Advantage Plans), rather than through traditional Medicare (Parts A and B).  If you have chosen to join a Medicare Advantage Plan or other Medicare Health Plan, you are not alone. Millions of people are members of these types of Medicare health plans which are offered by private health insurance companies which contract with Medicare to provide you with all of your Medicare benefits.  These plans are offered by Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO's), Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO's), and other similar organizations.  If you are enrolled in these plans, Medicare benefits are covered through your selected health insurance company and provide hospitalization and medical benefits and, most often, include prescription drug coverage.

Unfortunately, when you decided to enroll with a Medicare Advantage Plan, you do not expect to have your Medicare benefits wrongfully denied or delayed by your health insurance company.  Sadly, few Medicare participants question their HMO or PPO Medicare Health Plan companies on these very same issues.

A recent study revealed that approximately 20% of Medicare Advantage Plan members drop out due to problems with receiving care.  Other studies show that those beneficiaries that are older, poorer, sicker, and disabled are more likely to be unsatisfied with the level of care obtained from a Medicare Advantage Plan.
