According to a 2009 U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission report, more than 247,000 people are injured yearly while mowing their lawns.  Unfortunately, many of these people die or suffer permanent catastrophic injuries.  Many of these deaths or injuries could have been prevented if the lawn tractor or mower had a Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS) installed.  ROPS consist of frame bars that provide a safety zone to the operator in the event of a rollover.  Seat belts are also necessary in order to restrain the operator and keep the operator in the safety zone.

Despite the fact that manufactures of lawn tractors and riding mowers have known about the vital importance of ROPS in preventing needless deaths and injuries to its operators, most manufacturers do not sell tractors and mowers with preinstalled ROPS.  A purchaser of this equipment must retrofit their tractors and mowers on their own either at the time of purchase or at a later time.
