If due to a covered loss as outlined in your homeowner's insurance policy, you need to repair or replace a certain amount of roof tiles, floor tiles, a portion of your carpet or a portion of your kitchen cabinets, you may be entitled to a complete replacement of the entire material.  If you are unable to match the damaged items with the same quality, color, or size of material, your insurance company may have to replace the damaged materials in all adjoining areas.  For example, this means that if a portion of your roof tile is damaged in a wind storm, and that roof tile is discontinued and you are unable to locate the same quality, color or size for the roof tile, the insurance company may have to pay to have all of your roof tiles replaced.  The same is true for other covered materials, such as your floor tile, carpet, cabinets, etc.

The theory behind this claim settlement practice is that no homeowner should be left with patched carpeting or mismatching roof or floor tiles that leads to a devalued property.

Unfortunately, some insurance companies attempt to pay only for the damaged portion or affected area of the covered item leaving homeowners with mismatches and devalued property values.  Read your policy. If the damaged material cannot be replaced or repaired in a manner that maintains a consistent appearance for your property, then you may be entitled to a complete replacement of the damaged material, including those parts that were not damaged.
