A new Florida law mandates that life insurance companies must check whether there are beneficiaries to a life insurance policy when a policyholder dies.  The law will apply retroactively.  If an insurance company cannot find a beneficiary to turn over the policy benefits, it must then turn over the life insurance policy benefits to the State of Florida.  The law is the result of the State of Florida determining that life insurance companies where intentionally not discovering whether policyholders had died and not trying top find beneficiaries.
