Chronic fatigue syndrome is a condition that causes severe fatigue.  It is estimated that 1 - 4 million Americans are afflicted with this syndrome with nearly 25% being unemployed or on disability.  The exact cause is unknown and there is currently no cure.  Chronic fatigue syndrome occurs most commonly among women ages 30-50.

Symptoms include:

  • Extreme fatigue lasting 6 months or more
  • Activity is limited due to fatigue symptoms
  • Feeling tired after sleeping all night
  • Joint pain
  • Sore throat
  • Muscle aches and weakness
  • Fever of 101 degrees or less

The faster a patient receives medical treatment, the greater the chances that the illness will be resolved.  Treatments include drug therapy and other medications as well as mild exercise.
