America’s Most Stolen Cars- 2008

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Uniform Crime Reports, a motor vehicle is stolen in the United States every 28 seconds.  Forbes.com recently released an article on America's most stolen cars.  Topping the list were mostly SUV's and big trucks.  Below is a breakdown of the top 10 most stolen cars:

  • 1. Cadillac Escalade ESV
  • 2. Ford F-250 SuperCrew
  • 3. Cadillac Escalade
  • 4. Dodge Charger
  • 5. Ford F-350 SuperCrew
  • 6. Hummer H2 SUT
  • 7. Dodge Magnum
  • 8. Hummer H2
  • 9. Dodge Durango
  • 10. Honda S2000 Convertible

The Cadillac Escalade ESV's theft claim frequency is 15 for every 1000 insured vehicles, while Honda S2000 Convertible's theft claim frequency is 8.1 for every 1000 insured vehicles.    

Car theft can by stymied if owners use common sense like locking car doors, rolling up windows and parking in well-lit areas.  Parking your car inside your home's garage is recommended since nearly a third of all stolen cars are stolen right from your home's front driveway.  Using anti-theft devices is also highly recommended.
